I remember the first meetup of the Lancaster County Photography Meetup. I was there, along with Brian Evans, who now runs the meetup, and two other gentlemen, whose names I cannot remember. Brian and I are still active members of the meetup.
I joined because someone from Lancaster County who was a NYC transplant, started the group and contacted a few of us on Flickr who were active there. That’s how I got in on it myself.
Our first meetup was on January 20, 2008 at the Strasburg Railroad. It was a Sunday, extremely cold, and the warm museum wasn’t open. Still, we traipsed around outside in the wind taking photos of the trains, cars, and the water tank. Afterwards, we went out to a restaurant to warm up, and talk about our photography.
The photos featured here are from that first meetup. I still think they’re pretty good.
On February 5, 2016, the group went back to the Strasburg Railroad, this time there was about 30 of us. There are hundreds of registered members on the Meetup site. How we’ve grown!
This time, we were there on a Saturday. This time, we were in the museum. Yes.
So, that’s the story of how the Lancaster County Photography Meetup began, in a nutshell.
